SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, will address the World HR Congress 2024 on May 16 to stress the need for HR professionals to take the lead in eradicating incivility in the workplace.

Since its inception in 1986, the World HR Congress convenes biennially in different locations globally, serving as the platform for HR professionals, people managers, and business leaders from around the world to share best practices and network with colleagues facing similar challenges in their region. SHRM last hosted the World HR Congress at the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2018 in Chicago.

Taylor’s plenary keynote address at the two-day congress in Singapore continues SHRM’s ongoing effort to highlight the need for respectful, civil dialogue as part of its “1 Million Civil Conversations” campaign, an initiative launched in March.

The workplace is the No. 1 area where people are exposed to diverse points of view, and SHRM research found that two-thirds (66 percent) of U.S. workers experienced or witnessed incivility in the workplace over the past month. One-third (33 percent) expect workplace conflict to increase over the next 12 months.

Emily M. Dickens, SHRM’s chief of staff and head of government affairs, will be among World HR Congress panelists discussing “Navigating Succession Planning in the Era of Shorter Tenures, Defocused Experience and Automated Decision Making.” She serves as secretary-general of the World Federation of People Management Associations, the congress’s host.

Succession planning and civility will also be addressed June 23-26 at the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2024 in Chicago. Concurrent sessions on succession include Implementing a Succession Planning Process Tailored for Your Organization and Leveraging Longevity: The Opportunities and Challenges of an Aging Workforce.

Sessions on civility include Conflict De-Escalation and Resolution for the HR ProfessionalControl Conflict! Collaborate More. Counter LessCreating a Culture of Psychological Safety: Making It Safe to Speak Up, and You Make Me Soooo Mad!! Emotional Intelligence for Real People!
